Jenny Shinhae Gil, DVM

Dr. Jenny was born and raised in South Korea before moving to Vancouver, Canada, at the age of 15. She completed high school in Pitt Meadows and pursued a Pre-Veterinary course at the University of British Columbia. In 2003, Dr. Jenny returned to Korea to attend Chungnam National University, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2009.

Following her graduation, Dr. Jenny completed a rigorous internship at two of Korea’s largest veterinary hospitals, Royal Animal Medical Center and Western Animal Medical Center. She then spent four years practicing veterinary medicine and later co-founded an animal hospital with her husband, who is also a veterinarian. After five successful years of running their hospital, Dr. Jenny and her family relocated to Canada in 2018.

While preparing for her Canadian and U.S. veterinary board licenses, Dr. Jenny worked as a veterinary technician at Central Animal Emergency Clinic. Upon obtaining her licenses, she joined Coquitlam Animal Clinic. In June 2024, Dr. Jenny and her family moved to Fairfax, and she joined the team at Merrifield Animal Hospital.

Dr. Jenny speaks both English and Korean fluently. Outside of work, she enjoys paddle boarding during the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and cherishing time with her family. Over the years, she has had various pets, including a Shih Tzu, Miniature Pinscher, Maltese, Bengal cat, and Persian cat, all of whom lived long, happy lives. While she is not yet ready to welcome new pets into her home, she holds fond memories of her previous furry family members.
